Walgreens sued by woman who allegedly tripped over raised mat

GRETNA –  A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a national pharmacy for injuries she claims to have received in an alleged slip and fall incident.

Carmeletha Dos Santos filed suit against Walgreen Louisiana Company, Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 11.

Dos Santos claims she was shopping at a Marrero Walgreens when she tripped over a raised mat and fell to the floor. The plaintiff alleges she suffered crippling injuries in the fall.

The defendant is accused of creating a hazard, failing to remove a hazard and failing to warn in any fashion.

An unspecified amount of damages is sought for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering and mental pain and anguish.

Dos Santos is represented by Gretna-based attorney James E. Shields Sr.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.

Case no. 721-962.
