Woman sues Wal-Mart after tripping at store

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a national retailer for injuries she claims to have received in a fall on its premises.

Karen S. Mixon filed suit Jan. 15 against Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court.

Mixon claims she was walking in the entrance at the Wal-Mart located at 8912 Veterans Blvd. when she tripped over a mat on the floor and fell.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain a reasonably safe place for visitors, failing to take necessary precautions to protect the safety of visitors, failing to maintain and inspect premises, failing to warn visitors and workers of the dangerous nature of the premises and failing to take steps to avoid the incident.

An unspecified amount of damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, rental expenses, property damage, deprecation of vehicle, medical expenses, loss of future earnings, loss of earning capacity, permanent disability of the body, loss of consortium, loss of enjoyment of life, penalties and attorney's fees.

Mixon is represented by Edward J. Womac of the New Orleans-based Womac Law Firm.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. Ladart.
