West Medical Jefferson sued by woman who allegedly fell and hit head on toilet seat

Hospital west jefferson 1

GRETNA – A St. Charles Parish woman is suing a local hospital for injuries she claims to have received in a fall in the bathroom.

Kathy Fisher filed suit against West Jefferson Medical Center, Empire Janitorial Services LLC and their insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 18.

Fisher alleges she was a patient at West Jefferson Medical Center for a pre-operative appointment for an exploratory medical procedure to rule out renal cell carcinoma. The plaintiff claims that during her visit she used a restroom and upon standing up slipped on a wet floor and hit her head on the toilet seat.

Fisher asserts that following the incident she had double vision and when later examined by a neurologist it was found she had bleeding in her brain and that the attending physician at West Jefferson Medical Center should have ordered a CT scan after the fall.

The defendant is accused of failing to keep the restroom free from standing water.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, medical expenses, mental pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of income, loss of function and disability.

Fisher is represented by Houma-based attorney Catherine R. Gauthier.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.

Case no. 723-032
