NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans woman is suing after her daughter was allegedly attacked by a fellow student and her mother on school grounds.

Roshan Mayho filed suit on behalf of her minor child, Yasmine Sylvester, against Roberta Steward, individually and on behalf of her minor child, Geranique Steward, and against Warren Easton Charter High School and its insurer in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Jan. 10.

The suit stems from an incident that occurred on school grounds last year. On Jan. 23, 2012, Yasmine Sylvester allegedly was violently attacked on the Warren Easton campus, where she was a student. The suit alleges that Sylvester was attacked, violently beaten and kicked by the defendants Roberta and Geranique Steward. As a result of this attack, the suit claims, Yasmine Sylvester suffered severe and grievous injury to her body and mind.

Roberta Steward is accused of negligence for trespassing on school grounds, violently attacking a minor on school grounds, inciting her minor child to violently attack another child and failing to take evasive action to avoid a conflict that led to an attack on a minor.

Garanique Steward is accused of violently attacking another student on school grounds and of failing to take evasive action to avoid a conflict that led to an attack on another student.

Warren Easton High School is accused of failing to provide proper security for students, of failing to take evasive action to prevent an attack on a student, of failing to prevent any person to be on school grounds without its knowledge and of failing to be aware of trespassing.

An unspecified amount of damages is sought for past, present and future medical expenses, for past, present and future mental and physical pain and suffering, for residual disability and for property damages.

The plaintiffs are represented by Tim L. Fields of the New Orleans the Law Offices of Tim L Fields, LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin.
