Lakeside Mall sued by woman who claims she slipped in water from leaky roof

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a local shopping center for injuries she claims to have received in a fall on its premises.


Rosemarie Calix filed suit against Federal Insurance Company, Greater Lakeside Corp., Lakeside Shopping Center, Causeway LLC of Delaware, Broadwall Management Corporation and Vision Enterprises Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 14.


Calix claims she was a customer at Lakeside Shopping Center at 3301 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie on Feb. 18, 2012 when she slipped in water from a leaky roof and fell to the floor.


The defendant is accused of creating an unreasonably dangerous condition, allowing the presence of a slipping or falling hazard, failing to use reasonable care with the foreseeable risk of harm, failing to exercise reasonable and ordinary care, negligently leaving water on the floor, allowing a danger to go unnoticed by employees, failing to adequately warn of a hazard and failing to properly inspect or repair the premises.


Damages in excess of $50,000 are sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish and distress, medical expenses, disability, lost wages, loss of earning capacity and loss of enjoyment of life.


Calix is represented by attorney Richard J. Cline of Metairie.


The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
