Tulane University sued on claims of wrongful termination

NEW ORLEANS –  A former employee of a local university is suing for wrongful termination after she accused her superior of financial impropriety.

Jonathan "Jonnie" Johnson filed a lawsuit against Administrators of the Tulane Education Fund and Colin Crawford, in her individual capacity, in the Orleans Parish Central District Court on Feb. 13.

Johnson, an African-American, claims that she was working as an administrative assistant for Crawford who is a professor at the Payson Center for International Development at Tulane University.

The plaintiff alleges that she was wrongfully terminated after raising questions about certain expenditures made by her superior. The suit also lists several instances in which Johnson felt discriminated against due to her race.

The defendant is accused of violating state law prohibiting employment discrimination, violating state law prohibiting the intentional discrimination against any individual with respect to  compensation, privileges of employment or because of the individual's race or color.

An unspecified amount is sought for lost income, lost benefits, mental anguish and distress.

Counsel for the plaintiff is Marcia Suzanne Montero of New Orleans.

This case has been assigned to Division N Judge Ethel S. Julien.
