GRETNA – A marine company is suing a former employee and the business he founded for allegedly breaching a non-compete clause in his employment contract.
Maritech Commercial Inc. filed suit against Hasan Quddus and AI Marine Surveyors Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 19.
Maritech Commercial Inc. claims it contracted Quddus as a marine cargo surveyor in 2007 under the condition he refrain from working in a similar position for other entities during and two years following the termination of his employment. The plaintiff alleges the defendant voluntarily terminated his employment on Aug. 20, 2012, and that the company later found he had established AI Marine Surveyors Inc. on March 10, 2010 and had been performing similar work for that entity in direct violation of his employment contract.
The defendant is accused of breach of contract and violation of the Louisiana Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law for contracting with the plaintiff’s customers through deceptive acts and practices.
The plaintiff is seeking to have AI Marine Surveyors Inc. dissolved and prevent Quddus from using Maritech’s resources and proprietary information.
