Woman allegedly injured after slipping and falling on piece of lettuce at Lakeside Mall sues

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a local shopping mall for injuries she claims to have received in a slip and fall on a lettuce leaf.

Carla N. Alvarez filed suit against Greater Lakeside Corporation, 330 N. Causeway LLC and Federal Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 19.

Alvarez claims she was a patron at Radio Shack in Lakeside Shopping Center on Feb. 19 when she slipped on a piece of lettuce and fell to the floor. The plaintiff alleges that she received severe injuries in the fall.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain the safety of their premises, failing to warn of a hazardous or perilous condition, failing to exercise due care and caution for the safety of visitors, failing to provide adequate monitoring and maintenance of the premises, failing to post signage or to provide other warnings to passersby to alert them to the presence of a dangerous condition, allowing a danger to exist on their propfailing to adequately train and supervise the employees responsible for maintaining the integrity of the premiseserty and .

Damages not to exceed $50,000 are sought for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, distress, medical expenses, loss of wages, permanent disability and loss of future earning capacity.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.
