6960351887 6e957a603a z

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a local transit authority after she ran into the back of its bus.

Toni Wise filed suit against Jefferson Parish Transit Authority and Old Republic Insurance Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on March. 17.

Wise claims she was following a Jefferson Parish Transit Authority bus when it stopped suddenly causing her to run into the vehicle's back end. The plaintiff alleges the bus’s tail lights did not emit any light when the brakes were applied or did not emit enough light for the plaintiff to see that the bus was stopping.

Wise asserts that she received sever and significant injuries to her legs, knees and back.

The defendant is accused of failing to operate a vehicle in compliance with state law, failing to operate a vehicle that was equipped with properly functioning brake lights and careless and reckless operation of a public transit vehicle.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, lost wages, diminished earning capacity, special care and services and temporary loss of enjoyment of life.

Wise is represented by attorney Hollis Shepherd of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen D. Enright Jr.

Case no. 724-917.
