GRETNA – A local governmental entity is suing the owner of two pit bulls who allegedly caused serious injuries when they attacked a government employee.
Jefferson Parish filed suit against Lewis Broussard and his insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on March 22.
Jefferson Parish claims its employee Steven Phillipe responded to a citizen complaint about aggressive dogs on Agateway Drive in Harvey and that when he arrived he was attacked by two pit bulls owned by Broussard. The plaintiff alleges the employee received serious injuries to his legs, buttocks, hip, back and abdomen.
The defendant is accused of being the owner of two vicious dogs that should have been known to cause damage to others, failing to keep control of the dogs, failing to abide by leash laws, preventing the exercise of reasonable care and violating state law.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for workers’ compensation benefits, indemnity benefits and medical benefits.
Jefferson Parish is represented by Michael F. Nolan of Metairie-based Connick and Connick LLC.
The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.
Case no. 725-124.
