United Healthcare sued over non payment of emergency medical care

7e58113966c67085953dd45e2ed189c9 s

GRETNA – A New Orleans woman is suing her health insurance provider who she claims refused to pay for her emergency medical care treatment after she was in an automobile accident.

Aisha Adams filed suit against United Healthcare Services Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 28. Adams claims that she visited Tulane Lakeside Hospital for injuries she sustained in a automobile accident.

The plaintiff alleges that the cost of the visit was $10,016.50 and included hospital services and emergency room physician and radiologist fees. Adams asserts that she had a health insurance policy at the time through United Healthcare Services Inc. which was a preferred carrier at the hospital, but that it declined her claims outside of $248 for the radiologist.

The defendant is accused of arbitrarily and capriciously failing to pay the health insurance claims.

Damages in the amount of the remainder of the healthcare bill, legal costs and attorney’s fees are sought by the plaintiff.

Adams is represented by Gregory J. Chiartano of New Orleans-based Morris Bart LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.

Case no. 727-404.
