GRETNA – A New Orleans man who traveled to Saskatoon, Canada is suing over the late arrival of his luggage.

Vincent J. Schiro filed suit against United Airlines Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 3.

Schiro claims he traveled from New Orleans to Saskatoon, Canada for a week long trip on Nov. 10, 2012 and when he arrived an ice chest that had food in it as well as clothing did not arrive. The plaintiff alleges that United Airlines employees told him his belongings would be on the next flight causing him to delay his trip to a nearby hunting lodge and stay overnight at the airport. Schiro asserts that the next day he was told his luggage had gone to Winnipeg and would later be delivered to the hunting lodge. The plaintiff claims that the ice chest arrived five days later and that his clothing was left at a café and he had to pay a private individual $100 to pick up the clothing which he received only one day before the trip was over.

Schiro accuses the airline of ruining his trip.

Damages totaling $6,720 are sought for loss of food, hotel and meals overnight in Saskatoon, baggage pickup, airline ticket and baggage, cost of hunting trip, hunting license and firearm declaration.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.
