Woman who claims elevator door closed on her sues

Hospital west jefferson 1

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing a local hospital claiming she was injured when an elevator closed on her.

Deborah Melancon, and husband Claude, filed suit against Jefferson Parish Hospital District Number 1, West Jefferson Medical Center and Thyssenkrupp Elevator Corporation in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 3.

Melancon claims that she was entering the elevators in the physician’s office building located at 1111 Medical Center Blvd. in Marrero when the elevator door suddenly closed on her and violently pinned her against the door. The plaintiff alleges that she was injured in the incident.

The defendant is accused of negligence, strict liability, failing to properly install and inspect elevators, failing to properly repair the elevator and failing to properly calibrate and monitor the stall door pressure.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental pain and suffering, physical pain and suffering, disfiguration, disability, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life and future loss of earning capacity.

Melancon is represented by attorney Steven B. Badeaux of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Donald A. Rowan Jr.

Case no. 727-550.
