GRETNA – An insurance company is suing a construction company for allegedly providing faulty construction on a wall that collapsed during Hurricane Isaac.
Bankers Insurance Group filed suit against J.F. Smith Construction Co. Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 23.
Bankers Insurance Group claims that J.F. Smith Construction Co. Inc. constructed a wall located at 246 Iris Ave. in Jefferson. The plaintiff alleges that during Hurricane Isaac, which struck the area on Aug. 29, 2012, the wall constructed by the defendant collapsed.
Bankers Insurance Group asserts that the hurricane should not have damaged that wall if it had been properly constructed. Bankers Insurance Group asserts that J.F. Smith Construction Co. Inc. has not responded to demand for payment for the wall’s failure.
The defendant is accused of failing to properly construct the wall and negligence.
Damages in the amount of $49,625.25 are sought by the plaintiff plus attorney’s fees, expert witness fees and cost legal proceedings.
