2c004b0

GRETNA – A Jefferson bar is being sued after the death of a patron who was allegedly beaten during an armed robbery on the premises.

The estate of Haywood J. Parham Jr. filed suit against Johnny Silva, The Comet Inn, Carolyn Walker, Ryan Walker, Kevin Walker and their insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 5.

The Estate of Haywood J. Parham Jr. claims Parham was a customer at the Comet Inn located at 2803 Jefferson Highway in Jefferson when it was robbed by armed assailants on Sept. 5, 2012. The plaintiff alleges that in the incident Parham was brutally battered and suffered great bodily injury that necessitated two hospitalizations in excess of 30 days and extensive medical treatment. The estate. asserts that the Comet Inn had previously been the target or an armed robbery and that they should have taken precautions to prevent another robbery from occurring, such as the one that resulted in Parham’s injuries.

The defendant is accused of failing to provide a safe environment for patrons, failing to provide any type of security that would have been a deterrent to an armed robbery and failing to do what should have been done under the circumstances.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for injuries suffered.

The plaintiff is represented by attorney William A. Glennon III of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Glenn B. Ansardi.

Case no. 730-747.
