Church suing insurer for not covering wind and hail damage

GRETNA – A Gretna church is suing its insurer who allegedly turned down property damage claims stemming from a wind and hail storm.

Believer’s Life Family Church filed suit against Church Mutual Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 17.

Believer’s Life Family Church claims that on Feb. 24 its buildings located at 501 and 525 Lapalco Blvd. in Gretna were damaged by a wind and hail storm. The plaintiff alleges at the time of the storm they were carrying insurance provided by the defendant and that the damage to its roof, HVAC system, ceiling and loss of use should have been covered.

The defendant is accused of refusing to pay claims and bad faith.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for property damage, attorney’s fees and legal costs.

Believer’s Life Family Church is represented by Gilbert V. Andry IV of New Orleans-based Andry Law Firm LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Glenn B. Ansardi.

Case no. 731-127.
