GRETNA – The mother of a man who was strangled to death at a local motel is being suing for wrongful death.
Barbara Jean Sylvester, individually and as an administatrix of the estate of King Honore, filed suit against The Blackstone Group and The La Quinta Inns and Suites in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 26.
Sylvester asserts that her son, King Honore, was a guest at the La Quinta Inns and Suites located at 3100 I-10 Service Road in Metairie on Sept. 28, 2012 when he was strangled to death. The plaintiff claims the hotel is at fault for her son’s death.
The defendant is accused of failing to provide proper security to guests, failing to warn guess, failing to warn of previous criminal activity at the motel and failing to protect guests from illegal activity on its premises.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for loss of love and affection, loss of services, emotional pain and suffering and mental anguish.
Sylvester is represented by Brian G. Shearman of New Orleans-based Shearman-Denenea LLC.
The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Donald A. Rowan Jr.
