GRETNA – A fishing and marine supply company is suing a fishing supply manufacturer for allegedly breaching a contract to sell rods and reels.

Chag’s Fishing and Marine Supplies Inc. and Tyd’s LLC filed suit against Okuma Fishing Tackle Corporation in the 24th Judicial District Court on Nov. 6.

Chag’s Fishing and Marine Supplies Inc. and Tyd’s LLC claims they contracted to sell fishing poles manufactured by Okuma Fishing Tackle Corporation.

The plaintiffs assert that the defendant provided a lifetime warranty on its products that allowed all worn out rods and reels to be turned in for replacement. Chag’s Fishing and Marine Supplies Inc. and Tyd’s LLC allege that Okuma Fishing Tackle Corporation honored their warranties from 2007 to 2012, but in November 2012 the company changed its lifetime warranty to a limited warranty and that it no longer would provide replacements at no cost. The plaintiffs contends that the change in the contractual agreement ultimately resulted in the defendant stripping them in their right to sell their products.

The defendant is accused of violation of the Louisiana Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law, detrimental reliance and breach of contract.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for loss of customers, loss of profit, loss of market share, damage to reputation, expert fees, attorney’s fees and legal interest.

Chag’s Fishing and Marine Supplies Inc. and Tyd’s LLC are represented by Robert T. Myers of Metairie-based Young, Richaud & Myers.
