Lawyer sues property insurer over Hurricane Isaac damages

Insurance

GRETNA – A local lawyer is suing his property insurer for allegedly not covering property damages due to Hurricane Isaac.

Betzer Holdings LLC filed suit against Underwriters at Lloyds London in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 5.

Betzer Holdings LLC alleges that their office located at 3129 Bore St. in Metairie was covered by a property insurance policy issued by Lloyds London. The plaintiff asserts that when their property was damaged by Hurricane Isaac on Aug. 29 the policy was in place. Betzer Holdings LLC claims that on July 29, 2013, an adjuster representing Lloyd’s assessed the damage to their office, but did not provide any claims for the damages.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract and violation of state law.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for the amount of property damage assessed.

Betzer Holdings LLC is represented by Bruce C. Betzer of the Metairie-based the Law Office of Bruce C. Betzer.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.

Case no. 733-536.
