Tenant injured in trip over plywood sues apartment building owners

GRETNA – An apartment complex and its owners are being sued by a tenant who claims to have been injured when she tripped on a loose piece of wood on the building’s sidewalk.

Jacqueline E. Greunig filed suit against 1st Lake Properties Inc., Windmill Partners LLC, Favrot and Shane Companies and Windmill Creek North Apartments in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 11.

Greunig asserts she was a tenant at the Windmill Creek North Apartments located at 3535 Apollo Drive in Metairie when she tripped on a loose piece of plywood or particle board on their sidewalk and fell to the ground. The plaintiff claims she received serious injuries in the fall and is disabled as a result.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain premises, failing to warn of a hazard, failing to adequately inspect properties, placing tenants in a perilous situation and creation of a known hazardous condition.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, disability, medical expenses, lost wages and loss of earning capacity.

Greunig is represented by William E. Mura Jr. of the New Orleans-based Law Offices of W.A. "Chip" Forstall.

The case has been assigned to Division N Judge Stephen D. Enright Jr.
