GRETNA – A man who underwent an eye surgery he claims was botched is suing the eye care center where the procedure took place.
Irvin O. Barnes filed suit against Eye Associates of West Jefferson in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 9.
Barnes claims that on Dec. 13, 2012 he underwent a procedure conducted by Dy. Ayyala of Eye Associates of West Jefferson. The plaintiff asserts the procedure was designed to relieve his glaucoma and that afterward he complained of pain and blurry vision. Barnes alleges that in a follow-up visit the doctor saw a stain in his eye, a cornea defect and wrinkling in a membrane.
The defendant is accused of medical malpractice.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical injury, pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, medical expenses, loss of chance of a better outcome, permanent disability and vision loss.

The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.
