GRETNA – An insurance company is suing the manufacturer and installer of an allegedly defective hot water heater after it caught on fire and damaged a home.
Colony Specialty Insurance Company, as subrogee of Pearl Ann Gloston, filed suit against Rheem Manufacturing Company and Keller Supply LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 14.
Colony Specialty Insurance Company alleges that Rheem Manufacturing Company and Keller Supply manufactured and installed an allegedly defective 91-gallon water heater in Gloston’s home located at 1001 S. Sibley St. in Metairie. The plaintiff claims the water heater malfunctioned and caught Gloston’s home on fire, which resulted in severe fire and smoke damage.
The defendant is accused of property damage.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for property damages, any deductible paid, loss of profits, business income, expert fees, court costs and attorney’s fees.
Colony Specialty Insurance Company is represented by Charles S. Green of New Orleans-based Beahm & Green.
The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.
