GRETNA – A local sheriff’s office is being sued by a man who claims he was injured when a deputy ran an official vehicle into his car.
Matthew Vining filed suit against Michael Oliver and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 26.
Vining alleges that he was attempting to turn onto Terry Parkway in Gretna when Deputy Oliver did not yield and ran a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office vehicle into his car. The plaintiff claims he was injured in the incident.
The defendant is accused of failing to do what should have been done, failing to see what should have been seen, failing to take precautionary measures to avoid the incident, failing to properly supervise employees, disregarding the safety of others and failing to train employees to adequately control vehicle.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, injuries, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, property damage and loss of use of vehicle.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
