Lawsuit filed on behalf of child who was allegedly beaten by classmates

GRETNA – The father of a child who claims he was beaten by several students is suing the public school where the alleged attack occurred.

Ivory Chopin, on behalf of his minor son, filed suit against Jefferson Parish Public School System and Cherbonnier-Rillieux Elementary School in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 9.

Chopin alleges that on May 15, 2013 his son was playing on the playground at Cherbonnier-Rillieux Elementary School when several students began to pull, drag and kick him. The plaintiff asserts that due to the incident his son suffered bruises and marks on his back.

The defendant is accused of failing to properly supervise the child, failing to adequately train employees, failing to properly train employees and failing to provide safe play environment for children.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, permanent disability, loss of function, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of wages and diminished economic horizons.

Chopin is represented by attorney Richard D. Tiemann Jr. of Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Donald A. Rowan Jr.
