Starbucks sued by customer who claims she was injured in slip and fall in milky substance

M 002

GRETNA – A corporate coffee chain is being sued by a woman who claims she was severely injured after slipping and falling at one of its local locations.

Barbara W. Mackey filed suit against Starbucks Corporation, Greater Lakeside Corporation Inc. and their insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 28.

Mackey alleges she was returning from lunch to her job at Dillard’s, located in the Lakeside Mall in Metairie, on April 26, 2013 when she slipped and fell on a milky substance covering the floor that had leaked from a dolly being used by a Starbucks employee. The plaintiff claims she received injuries to her neck, back, legs, head and other body parts in the incident for which she has had to undergo medical treatment.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain and keep floors free of spilled liquids, failing to provide safe passageways, creating or allowing a dangerous condition to exist and failing to properly train employees.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses, pain and suffering, disabling injuries, loss of quality of life and loss of life’s pleasures.

Mackey is representing her self pro se.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.

Case no. 737-866.
