GRETNA – An automotive repair shop owner is being sued by an employee who claims he was severely inured after falling from a ladder while trying to change a light bulb at his workplace.
Brian E. Pope filed suit against Richard Bordelon and Bordelon Automotive LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 10.
Pope contends he was a mechanic employed by Bordelon who asked him to climb a 12-foot ladder to change a light bulb at Bordelon Automotive located at 2432 Willaims Blvd. in Kenner. The plaintiff asserts that when he was on top of the ladder Bordelon was supposed to be holding it steady, but that he did not causing the ladder to wobble and crash to the floor. Pope alleges he suffered debilitating injuries in the incident including a fractured foot, pains and numbness and nerve damage.
The plaintiff claims he was forced to use crutches for several years due to the injuries and afterward had to undergo several weeks of physical therapy, which prevented him from working and fulfilling duties for his family. Pope asserts Bordelon has failed to compensate him for lost wages due to the outcomes of the incident.
The defendant is accused of failing to steady the ladder, failing to ensure Pope had proper equipment, failing to adequately train the plaintiff, failing to maintain a proper watch on the task at hand, failing to prevent the ladder from slipping and falling and failing to secure the ladder in a safe manner.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life, lost wages and loss of earning capacity.
