NEW ORLEANS – A furniture manufacturer and a homeowner are being sued by a mother who claims her daughter’s toe was nearly severed when a table collapsed on her,
Amy Briggs Bosworth, on behalf of her minor daughter, filed suit against Julianna Iacovone, an unknown furniture manufacturer, Centauri Specialty Insurance and another unknown insurer in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Sept. 15.
Bosworth alleges her daughter was attending a gathering at Iacovone’s home located at 2405 Magazine St. in New Orleans on Sept. 15, 2013 when a table collapsed on top of her, severely injuring her foot and nearly serving her toe. The plaintiff contends her daughter had to undergo immediate surgery due to the incident and has since been told she may need to undergo subsequent surgeries to further repair the damage to her foot.
The defendant is accused of failing to provide a safe environment, failing to use to use the table in conformation with instructions, failing to give adequate warning of a defect, failing to manufacture a a table that is not unreasonably dangerous in design, failing to manufacture a table that conforms to express warranty and manufacturing a table that is unreasonably dangerous.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental pain and anguish, medical expenses, loss of earning capacity, loss of wages and earning capacity, loss of consortium, permanent disability, loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish and emotional distress.

The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Lloyd J. Medley.
