NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans woman is suing two housing corporations and their insurers for allegedly failing to mend a broken water line, which she says resulted in her fall and subsequent injury.

Patricia Bagent filed suit against St. John Berchman's Apartments LLC, St. John Berchman's Housing Corporation Inc., Providence Community Housing, Meadowbrook Insurance Group and Century Insurance Group in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Aug. 22.

Bagent claims that on June 16 she slipped and fell in an apartment located at 3400 St. Anthony Street in New Orleans. The plaintiff asserts that her fall was caused by water on the floor, which was reportedly the result of a broken water line.

Bagent reports that she has suffered severe and disabling injuries to her head, back, knee and shoulders as a result of the incident.

The defendant is accused of negligence, including failing to replace defective water lines in the property, failing to warn of an unreasonably dangerous condition, failing to use reasonable care under the circumstances and failing to properly maintain, inspect, repair the premises.

The plaintiff seeks over $50,000 in damages for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, medical expenses and loss of enjoyment of life.

Patricia Bagent is represented by attorney A.J. Rebennack.

The case has been assigned to District C Judge Sidney H. Cates IV.
