GRETNA – A woman is being sued for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars and a piece of property when she served as power of attorney for a friend.

Shelia D. Glynn, through and her curator James Glynn Sr., filed suit against Audrea Hicks in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 27.

Glynn alleges that Hicks held her power of attorney, and as such had total control over her finances, from Nov. 13, 2007 until it was revoked onece on June 26, 2012, and for good on April 12, 2013. The plaintiff claims that as her power of attorney, Hicks had the ability to divert funds to pay her bills and had complete access to her financial records, finances and funds. Glynn contends that Hicks misappropriated, misspent and stole money from her.

The plaintiff asserts that when she had power of attorney, Hicks arranged to have Glynn sell her a piece of property in Mississippi worth $6,000 for $10 and then further, once the transfer of ownership was complete, had Glynn’s accounts pay the property taxes. In addition, Hicks allegedly paid her personal expenses out of Hicks' checking and savings accounts through several withdrawals of $10,000 at a time that are unaccounted for. Glynn alleges that after the alleged theft came to light and she removed Hicks as power of attorney, the defendant physically attacked her.

The defendant is accused of unjust enrichment and bad faith.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for the return of all funds, undue hardship, financial hardship, emotional distress and attorney’s fees.
