Fall allegedly caused by leaking bar results in lawsuit against Hilton Worldwide

Exterior

NEW ORLEANS – A man working an event at the Hilton Riverside Hotel is suing after allegedly being injured when he slipped and fell in a puddle of water on its premises.

Anthony Bassett filed suit against Hilton Worldwide Inc., Global Staffing Solutions LLC and ATAIN Insurance Company in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Aug. 27.

Bassett states that on Nov. 1, 2013, he was employed by Global Staffing Solutions to work an event at the Hilton Riverside Hotel. The plaintiff proceeded to use the rear exit of Grand Ballroom D, but allegedly failed to notice a large puddle of water leaking from the adjacent bar, causing him to slip and knock the back of his head on the ground.

The defendants are accused of failing to inspect the adjacent bar to the ballroom, ensure the adjacent bar was functioning, place warning signs around the adjacent bar, warn of a hazardous condition, properly train its personnel as well as allowing the use of the defective adjacent bar.

The petitioner is seeking an unspecified amount in damages for pain and suffering, mental agony, medical expenses and emotional distress.

The plaintiff is represented by James S. Rees IV of Charbonnet Law Firm LLC.

The case has been assigned to Div. N Judge Ethel S. Julien.

Case no. 2014-08478.
