GRETNA – A shipping company that was delivering a volatile chemical to a local business is being sued for allegedly mishandling the freight and causing a chemical release that resulted in an employee being severely injured.
Placid C. Nwokorie filed suit against Kinder Morgan Services LLC and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 26.
Nwokorie alleges that on Sept. 27, 2013 a driver employed by Kinder Morgan Services was delivering the chemical triethylamine to its facility located in Harvey. The plaintiff asserts that during the delivery the defendant negligently caused fumes, which can be hazardous to humans, from the shipment to escape. Nwokorie contends that the gas fumes caused one of its employees to be sickened and suffer injuries to the eyes and body as well as lost consciousness, shortness of breath, diminished lung function, emotional distress and fear, which led to them missing three months of work.
The defendant is accused of negligence.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought by the plaintiff.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.
