Dispute between co-owners of truck ends up in court

Breach of contract

GRETNA – A dispute between two people who purchased a truck together wherein one claims she made all payments on it has ended with the pair in court.

Ronna M. Steele filed suit against George R. Merril III in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 1.

Steele asserts that she entered into a verbal contract with Merril to jointly purchase a 2011 Ford pickup truck in which she was to pay a $10,000 down payment to their lender, Louisiana Federal Credit Union, and he would pay the monthly payments on the vehicle until the balance on the loan was paid off in addition to providing full liability insurance. However, the plaintiff claims that the defendant has not made any payments on the vehicle since leaving her to make those payments as well as providing full liability insurance on the vehicle.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for reimbursement for the amount of car payments in question and recovery of the value of the vehicle based on mileage accumulated on it by the defendant.

Steele is represented by attorney Robert H. Cooper of Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison Jr.

Case no. 742-986.
