GRETNA – A patient is suing her optometrist and his clinic over an alleged misdiagnosis that she claims later caused one eye to be blinded.
Wanda Johnson filed suit against Optical One LLC and Dr. Daniel T. Khong O.D., a Professional Optometry Corporation in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 8.
Johnson alleges that she visited Optical One and Khong on May 31, 2013 complaining of a problem in her left eye and after an eye examination Khong prescribed her a greater eye glass lens and medication. The plaintiff contends that the treatment failed to resolve the problems she was experiencing and it became apparent that the plaintiffs had failed to properly diagnose her condition, which was later revealed by another doctor on Dec. 2, 2013 to be a severe condition that can lead to blindness if not treated early. Johnson asserts that on Dec. 9, 2013 she underwent surgery and as a result was blinded in her left eye.
The defendant is accused of failing to properly diagnose, failing to properly examine and determine cause of eye problems, failing to use proper diagnostic equipment, failing to perform proper procedures, failing to properly supervise staff, performing examination with employees who lacked necessary training, failing to perform procedures requiring skills exercised by optometrists and failing to obtain an independent consult with an ophthalmologist.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, disability, disability and loss of enjoyment of life.
Johnson is represented by R. Dean Church of Boutte-based Dean Church Law LLC.
The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Glenn B. Ansardi.
Case no. 743-171.
