Academy Sports sued by woman for alleged injuries sustained in parking lot fall

GRETNA – A local sporting goods store is being sued by a customer who was allegedly injured in a fall in its parking lot.

Sabrina Colson filed suit against Academy Sports + Outdoors, Victory Real Estate Investments LLC and Massachusetts Bay Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court.

Colson contends that shows walking in the parking lot at the Academy Sports located at 8843 Veterans Memorial Blvd. in Metairie when he suddenly and without warning tripped and fell on part of a signpost that was sticking out of the parking lot pavement. The plaintiff asserts that she suffered severe injuries in the fall to her back that may require surgery as well as cuts, abrasions and bruising.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, medical expenses and lost wages.

Colson is represented by attorney James A. Hatch of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen C. Grefer.

Case no. 742-872.
