School

NEW ORLEANS – A local woman is suing an Algiers charter school after allegedly sustaining severe injuries in a fall after her chair collapsed at a New Orleans middle school.

Cheryl L. Carter filed suit against Lexington Insurance Company and Algiers Charter School Association Inc. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Nov. 3, 2014.

The plaintiff claims that she was sitting in a chair at McDonogh #32 Literacy Charter School when the chair on which she was sitting suddenly collapsed. The plaintiff alleges that she subsequently suffered severe and disabling injuries as a result of the defendant's negligence.

The plaintiff blames the Algiers Charter Schools Association, Inc. for failing to maintain a reasonably safe place for visitors and residents and for failing to take steps to avoid the incident.

The plaintiff seeks an unspecified amount in damages for both physical and mental pain and suffering, loss of past and future earnings and attorneys' fees.

The Plaintiff is represented by Edward J. Womac of New Orleans-based Law Offices of Edward J. Womac Jr. & Associates.

This case has been assigned to Division C Judge Sidney H. Cates IV.

Case no. 2014-10629.
