GRETNA – A local hospital is being sued by a patient who claims he was injured after an anesthesia was performed without his consent and as a result he received an injury to a set of nerves connecting to his spine.

Corey Brisco filed suit against State of Louisiana through the Board of Supervisors of Louisiana State University and Agriculture and Mechanical College, on behalf of LSU Health Sciences Center, LSU Health Care Services Division, Dr. Ryan Rubin, Dr. Ronda Flower, Dr. Robert Dugas and Ochsner Medical Center – Kenner LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 10.

Brisco asserts that he underwent shoulder surgery performed by Dugas at Ochsner Medical Center Kenner for which he underwent anesthesia meant to block his nerves. The plaintiff claims that as a result of the positioning of the anesthesia block he received an injury to a network of nerves connecting to his spine. Brisco alleges that he did not provide informed consent to the defendants before the anesthesia block that resulted in the injury was applied.

The defendant is accused of medical malpractice, breach of appropriate standard of care, inappropriate positioning of the patient and inappropriate administration of the anethstesia block.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, lost wages, medical expenses, permanent disability and disfigurement.

Brisco is represented by Frank A. Silvestri of New Orleans-based Silvestri & Massicaot LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division A Judge Raymond S. Steib Jr.

Case no. 745-021.
