Church, reverend sued by man over slip and fall at funeral

GRETNA – A funeral goer is suing a local church and reverend claiming he stationed injuries in a slip and fall.

Charles Maxwell filed suit against Reverend Sam Baker, Nineveh Baptist Church and Western Heritage Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 22.

Maxwell contends that on Dec. 28, 2013 he was attending funeral at Nineveh Baptist Church and was walking down a hallway when he slipped and fell to the floor. The plaintiff asserts he received severe physical and psychological injuries in the incident.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain the premises, failing to properly inspect the premises, failing to warn of a hazard, failing to maintain the premises in a safe condition and failing to properly supervise employees.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical expenses and pain and suffering.

Maxwell is represented by attorney Thomas E. Campbell of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.
