GRETNA – A bail bonds company is being sued by a man who claims he was wrongfully arrested and returned to jail despite not breaking terms of his release.
Bernal Aguilar filed suit against A-1 Bonds Unlimited & Peeples Lending in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 13.
Aguilar contends that on June 28, 2013 he entered into a contract with A-1 Bonds Unlimited & Peeples Lending to provide $15,800 for a bail bond. The plaintiff asserts that she did not violate the terms of the contract that was supposed to guarantee the plaintiff's release from prison until her court case was finished. Aguilar claims that he followed all rules of his bail terms, but that 20 days into the contract he was woken up by Carlos Sanchez, an A-1 Bonds Unlimited employee, and arrested for no reason.
The defendant is accused of breach of contract.
Damages in the amount of $15,800 plus legal interest is sought by the plaintiff.
Aguilar is representing himself pro se in the case.
The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.
