NEW ORLEANS – A New Orleans woman is suing the manufacturer of shoes she claims broke apart while she was walking and the department store where she purchased them.

Sara Brooks filed suit against Ross Dress for Less Inc., Connors, Fong and Mancuso Inc. and the Hanover Insurance Group in the Orleans Parish District Civil Court on Jan. 21.

The plaintiff claims that she had completed a shopping trip in Gentilly and was on her way to her car in the parking lot when her left shoe suddenly broke apart, causing her to lose balance and fall onto her car. She asserts that the manufacturer designed a product defective in its design that acted to render the shoe unfit and unreasonably dangerous. She also claims that she purchased the shoes at a Ross Dress for Less location and that the store should have been aware of the shoes' defects.

Brooks is seeking an unspecified amount in damages for medical bills, pain and suffering and the purchase price of the defective shoes.

The plaintiff is represented by attorneys Thomas E. Campbell and Jacqueline A. Campbell of Metairie.

This case has been assigned to Division L Judge Kern A. Reese.

Case no. 2015-00628.
