NEW ORLEANS – A local electronics supply company is suing a wire supply company claiming it did not find out until a month after purchasing certain items that they did not meet certification requirements.
Southern Electronics Supply Inc. filed suit against Anixter Inc. and Paige Electric Co. in the Orleans Parish District Civil Court on Jan. 15.
The plaintiff claims it purchased a large amount of cable wire from the defendant on Jan. 15, 2014. The total amount of the purchase was $47,628.00. Plaintiff was allegedly assured the products met laboratory qualifications.
The plaintiff also asserts that it had a deal in place with Louisiana State University (LSU) for a project worth $99,500. On Jan. 22, 2014, the defendant allegedly reassured the plaintiff that the wire would be re-certified in late February. The plaintiff claims that no progress came of these promises, and a lack of cable forced the company to cancel its deal with LSU and forfeit lost profits based on an additional 228,000 feet of wire.
Southern Electronics is accusing the defendant of trade practice violations and a bad faith breach of contract.
The plaintiff seeks $171,218.00 in damages for damages under the Louisiana Unfair Trade Practices Act, damages due to the breach of contract, and court costs.
The plaintiff is represented by T. Randolph Richardson of New Orleans-based Garner and Munoz.
