GRETNA – A woman is suing over alleged permanent scarring she received when an electric blanket she was using malfunctioned and burned her.
Francine Celestine filed suit against Sunbeam Products Inc., Jarden Corporation and Jarden Consumer Solutions in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 2.
Celestine alleges that on Feb. 7, 2014 she was using a Sunbeam heated blanket she purchased from a local retailer when it malfunctioned. The plaintiff contends due to the malfunction in the defendant’s product she received burns to her back that resulted in permanent scarring and injuries.
The defendant is accused of providing a substandard product.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish and disability.
Celestine is represented by William R. Mustain III of the Metairie-based Stanga & Mustain PLC.
The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.
