NEW ORLEANS – A nail salon customer alleges her right index finger was lacerated during a manicure, leading to permanent scarring.
Catherine Nugent Dunn filed suit against Shiny Nails and State Farm Fire and Casualty Insurance Company in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Feb. 18.
On Feb. 20, 2014, the petitioner, Catherine Nugent Dunn, was receiving a manicure at the salon located at 117 Robert E. Lee Blvd. in New Orleans. During the procedure, the Shiny Nails’ manicurist allegedly deeply cut into the petitioner’s right index finger which caused a severe infection, the suit claims. The plaintiff contends she sustained a loss of sensation in her right index finger and permanent scarring as a result of the incident.
The defendants are accused of failing to properly train personnel, supervise the manicurist, employ correct procedures and rules to administer manicures, clean and sterilize instruments, as well as irresponsibly hiring an incompetent manicurist.
The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages for mental agony, pain and suffering, medical expenses, travel expenses, emotional turmoil and loss of enjoyment of life.
