NEW ORLEANS – The relatives of a minor child and an adult male shot at a performance by popular Atlanta-based rapper Rich Homie Quan are suing the artist, his record label and Mardi Gras World for negligence and claiming that a lack of security led to their family members' murders.

Terriel Jefferson, on behalf of a minor child, and Cynthia Fields filed suit against Rich Homie Quan, Think It's A Game Entertainment LLC, Sleeping Giant Enterprises LLC, Travelers Casualty and Surety Company, Mardi Gras World LLC, Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World Inc. and New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention center in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on March 3.

The plaintiffs assert that the decedents were present and lawfully attended the Rich Homie Quan concert on the premises of Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World New Orleans on March 4, 2014. At some point during the concert, suddenly and without warning the plaintiffs' relatives were allegedly shot several times and murdered by an unknown third party assailant. The plaintiffs claim that another shooting took place at the concert an hour or so prior to the shootings in question, and that the venue and musician were negligent in failing to the evacuate the premises following that incident.

The plaintiffs claim negligence on part of the defendant's event company in failing to evacuate the premises following the shooting as well as on the part Mardi Gras World LLC and the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in failing to reasonably protect the premises and protect attendees at the event. Two shooting deaths at the defendant's concerts in the duration of the prior year were also cited to show that greater security should have been provided.

The plaintiffs seek an unspecified amount in damages for pain and suffering, loss of income, medical expenses, burial and funeral expenses, and the loss of decedents' love, affection, companionship and support.

The plaintiff is represented by Frank G. Desalvo APLC of New Orleans.

This case has been assigned to Divison L Judge Kern A. Reese.

Case no. 2015-01965.
