Casino sued after machine allegedly falls on, injures patron

GRETNA – A patron of a casino is suing after a video poker machine she was playing allegedly fell on her resulting in severe bodily injuries.

Lisa McKeel filed suit against Great Divide Insurance Company, Churchill Downs Louisiana Video Poker LLC and Fair Ground OTB Casino in the 24th Judicial District Court on March 13.

McKeel asserts taht on March 15, 2014 she was at the Fair Ground OTB Casino located at 800 Westbank Expressway in Westwego when a video poker machine she was playing fell on her. The plaintiff claims the incident resulted in severe personal injuries. McKeel alleges the defendants were aware of the defective machine prior to the incident.

The defendant is accused of allowing a defective video poker to be operated by the public, failing to keep their machines in good working condition, failing to perform regular safety checks on the premises, failing to see the condition of the poker machine, failing to exercise due care and caution for the safety of others and failing to do anything to avoid the accident.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental anguish and mental distress.

McKeel is represented by attorneys Kevin A. Rieth, James G. Kambur and Laura Kambur of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Glenn B. Ansardi.
