Contracting company files $375K lawsuit over arbitration award

Cash

NEW ORLEANS – A contractor is suing  a subcontractor who allegedly failed project demands on a local juvenile jail and lost a $375,000 arbitration decision concerning that failure.

The McDonnel Group LLC filed suit against True Wall Enterprises LLC in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on April 6.

The suit claims that on Jan. 10, 2014, an arbitration agreement was ordered between McDonnel and True Wall involving a failed Youth Study and Juvenile Justice Center project located at 1100 Milton Street in New Orleans.

McDonnel contends that True Wall denied this demand and an arbitrator was allegedly ordered to step in to settle the dispute. On Jan. 7, 2015, a hearing was held according to arbitration procedures allegedly without the presence of True Wall, despite being told of the hearing multiple times, the case file reports.

True Wall was ordered to pay $375,214.92, the suit claims.

The plaintiff is represented by Terrence L. Brennan and Kelly E. Theard of Deutsch Kerrigan & Stiles LLP.

The case has been assigned to Div. J Judge Paula A. Brown.

Case no. 2015-03201.
