GRETNA – A Buddhist monk is being sued for allegedly improperly charging items to a contractor’s account at a lumber company without its knowledge for the construction of a meditation center.

Concrete Solutions LLC filed suit against Monk Thang Boa Pham, The Nguyen Te Meditation Center and Gulf Coast Bank and Trust Company in the 24th Judicial District Court.

Concrete Solutions claims that Monk Thang Boa Pham owns a property, The Nguyen Te Meditation Center, located at 4068 Barataria Blvd. in Marrero. The plaintiff alleges that in the process of building The Nguyen Te Meditation Center, Monk Thang Boa Pham wrongfully charged several construction materials to its account at 84 Lumber Company located at 10329 Airline Highway in St. Rose.

Concrete Solutions contends that Monk Thang Boa Pham, who served as general contractor on the project, has failed to reimburse it for the construction materials worth more than $25,000. In addition, Concrete Solutions LLC asserts it provided Monk Thang Boa Pham and The Nguyen Te Meditation Center with $150,000 in goods, materials and labor on the project that have also gone unpaid.

The defendant is accused of violation of state law and breach of contract.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for reimbursement of costs and attorney’s fees.

Concrete Solutions is represented by attorney Sarah Whalen of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.

Case no. 747-637.
