Construction company sues former employee for allegedly stealing $15K in equipment

GRETNA – A construction company is suing a former employee who allegedly stole their equipment for lifting homes and used it for his own personal gain.

GBT Builders Inc. filed suit against David Michel in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 21.

GBT Builders Inc. claims Michel took several pieces of equipment from them including a house jacks, an engine and other components used to elevate homes. The plaintiff alleges that because the defendant took possession of its equipment they were unable to use it for jobs.

GBT Builders Inc. contends Michel owes $15,492.93 in lost revenue and for other costs.

The defendant is accused of conversion.

Damages in the amount of $15,492.93 is sought by the plaintiff.

GBT Builders Inc. is represented by William S. Watkins of Houma-based Duval Funderbunk Sundry Lovell & Watkins.

The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.
