Zachary police officer accused of false arrest in lawsuit

BATON ROUGE – An East Baton Rouge man is suing the Zachary Police Department for falsely arresting him.

Joseph Glenn Labatut filed suit against Zachary Police Department, David McDavid Zachary City Chief of Police and Officer Justin Nevels in the 19th Judicial District Court.

According to the filing, on May 3, 2013, the plaintiff was approached by the defendants Chief David McDavid and Justin Nevels and was falsely arrested on false accusations. These acts taken by the defendants allegedly caused serious damage to the plaintiff. The plaintiff claims the defendants denied him his Constitutional right to be free from false imprisonment and false arrest.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, mental pain, psychological damage, past and future loss of enjoyment, attorney fees and court fees.

Attorney Tommy Thompson of St. Francisville is representing the plaintiff.

This case has been assigned to Division E Judge William A. Morvant.

Case no. 638,912.
