GRETNA – A local theater is being sued by a woman who claim she is disabled after shattering her elbow in a slip and fall in a bathroom.

Inez Laurent, and husband Gerald, filed suit against Manueal Cavazos, American Multi-Cinema Inc., Elmwood Palace 20 and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 9.

Laurent asserts that on July 21, 2014 she was a customer at the AMC Elmwood Palace 20 located at 1200 Elmwood Park Blvd. in Harahan. The plaintiff claims that when she was in a women’s bathroom at the theater she slipped on a clear liquid and fell to the floor shattering her left elbow in the process. Laurent alleges she has had to undergo surgery to repair her elbow and is now disabled in addition to having a large scar.

The defendant is accused of creating a slip hazard, failing to mark a slip hazard, failing to properly train and supervise employees and allowing an unsafe condition to exist.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of earnings and permanent disability.

Laurent is represented by J. Bart Kelly III of New Orleans-based Alvendia, Kelly & Demarest.

The case has been assigned to Division K Judge Ellen Shirer Kovach.

Case no. 751-465.
