Texas resident sued by employer after allegedly striking other employee

Healthcare

An Illinois dredging contractor company doing business in Louisiana is suing one of its employees after he allegedly hit another employee.

Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Co. LLC filed a complaint Sept. 8 in the U.S District Court of the Eastern District of Louisiana against Oziel Martinez, a Texas resident.

On Aug. 23, while Martinez was employed by Great Lakes and working in Belle Chasse, the complaint states he intentionally punched another employee, Gilbert Gonzalez, in his eye.

Gonzalez sustained injuries as a result of the blow, and he sought treatment at the Ochsner Medical Center in Belle Chasse, obtaining medical care for which Great Lakes has been obligated to pay.

Great Lakes brings this suit against Martinez to recover all maintenance and cure paid to Gonzalez, plus attorney fees and court costs.

Great Lakes is represented by Jefferson R. Tillery, C. Barrett Rice, and Stephen H. Clement of Jones Walker LLP in New Orleans.
